Vomiting occurs when something stimulates the gastrointestinal system telling it that there is a problem. This can be from a number of different things such as a virus or an illness originating from raw meat. Children are often more susceptible to vomiting. Sometimes this vomiting can be prevented, but it takes a parent that is willing to be vigilant and attentive to his child. Recognizing that there is a problem early on is key.

Instructions

    • 1

Regulate how much your child is eating. In particular you want to monitor her amount of sweets. Eating too much sugar can cause a child to vomit and the only way to prevent this is to make sure you know what goes in your child's mouth.

    • 2

Cook all meat, chicken and eggs until well done. Undercooked food can cause vomiting. You can also prevent vomiting by teaching your children to wash their hands before and after handling meat.

    • 3

Give your child some children's Tylenol if he has a fever or a headache. Headaches can sometimes cause vomiting so if you have your child rest and you get rid of the headache, you will prevent the vomiting.

    • 4

Have your child drink plenty of water if you think she is not feeling up to par. Water not only keeps the body hydrated, but it also cleanses the body of any toxins. If you get rid of the toxins you will prevent a possible bout of vomiting.

    • 5

Mix 1 tbsp. of ginger with some water and have your child drink it. Ginger calms a stomach so that it does not expel what is in it. If you don't have any ginger, you can use gingerale. Sip on the gingerale and then wait for your stomach to start feeling better.

    • 6

Give your child a dose of milk of magnesia suspension liquid. This product neutralizes the acid in your stomach so that you don't feel like you need to vomit. It should be given to your child as soon as he complains of a tummy ache.

Tips & Warnings

  • Call your doctor for any vomiting that continues past 24 hours. Keep your children away from any other children who are vomiting. This will prevent them from catching any viruses that cause the vomiting.

  • Children who are vomiting are at risk for dehydration. Try to get your child to drink some fluids and if she doesn't urinate in a 12-hour period, you will need to take her to the hospital.
