How to Design a Feng Shui Office

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice of object placement. It is believed that there are certain ways that items can be placed to work in harmony, rather than in discord. When objects around you are in harmony, then your life will be in balance. Using feng shui in the office may help employees work together harmoniously, thus relieving workplace stress. According to the precepts of feng shui, with this new calmness in the workplace, employees will treat clients better and the owner of the business will make more money---a good arrangement for all concerned.

Instructions

    • 1

Position your desk in the office so that your back is to a wall with a picture of mountains on the wall. This will give you protection and strong support.

    • 2

Position your desk and chair so you will be facing the door when seated at the desk, but don't sit directly in front of the door. There should be no barriers in front of your door that would block the flow of the all-important energy.

    • 3

Furnish your office with furniture that is balanced in size and in proportion to the room. The pieces should be neither too small nor too large for the space. This keeps the energy balanced.

    • 4

Remove all clutter, seen and unseen. That means your desk should be neat, with only the items you are working on atop it. Unseen clutter, such as files, e-mail and contents of desk drawers, should be well organized; eliminate as much of it as possible. Clutter brings negative energy to the office.

    • 5

Decorate your office in red, purple and green. Use one or all three of the colors. These are the colors of wealth.

    • 6

Improve your career by adding accents that are blue or black and in wavy shapes. The number 8, the money number, can also be placed, literally, in your office space, or you can feature a collection of eight items.

    • 7

Include a water object, such as an aquarium or a small fountain, to enhance the wealth and prosperity in your office.
