Prepare your hair. Before starting the flipping process, make any needed preparations. If necessary, wash and dry your hair. If your hair isn't already naturally straight you will need to straighten it before beginning.

    • 2

Apply a light mousse. You don't want anything with too much hold; you still need flexibility and movement. A light mousse is needed to just hold your flips in place. Apply mousse to the palms of your hands and use your fingertips to brush the mousse through your hair. Apply extra mousse at the tips of your hair where the flips will be formed. Brush through your hair with a brush after successfully applying mousse.

Position the flat iron. Work on a small section of your hair at a time. Separate a piece away from your hair that you will work with. Place the arms of the flat iron around the middle of the length of your section of hair.

Flip your hair. Drag the flat iron down a section of hair. Begin to rotate the flat iron once you're about to reach the ends of your hair. Flip the iron up at the end of your hair, completely upside down. Release the iron from your hair to reveal a perfect flip. For a change, create inward flips by simply flipping the flat iron inward instead.
