Whether you're an avid gardener, want a durable prayer kneeler or find it hard to clean floors like you used to, the good news is that you can make a foam kneeler fairly easily. With just a few materials and a strong sewing machine, your new kneeler can be made in minutes and last as long as you can. Purchase your foam custom-cut to the size you need, or buy a larger quantity and make more than one for use all over your home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Closed cell polyethylene foam, 1 inch thick (1.7-pound density) and cut to 8 by 24 inches Outdoor-quality vinyl fabric, 20 by 28 inches Sewing machine Heavy-duty thread Denim needles
  1. Step 1

Fold over the vinyl with the right, or patterned, sides pressed together. Sew a 5/8-inch seam along the short bottom edge and then up the long side. Take a few reverse stitches at the start, corner and end of your sewing line to secure the stitch.

  2. Step 2

Turn the vinyl right-side out. Run your fingers along the inside edges to push the seams and corners outward.

  3. Step 3

Insert the foam rectangle into the vinyl pouch. This should be a tight fit that will force the foam to compress slightly, but not so much that the thread is exposed or breaks.

  4. Step 4

Fold in the ends of the vinyl, creating a seam, to close the end. Pin the ends together, if needed. Sew along the edge to secure the foam inside. Use as needed and wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase a few different patterns of vinyl cloth and make extra kneelers to give as gifts to gardening friends and family.
