The PSP is a beautiful piece of hardware, but eventually you may find yourself unhappy with its outward aesthetics. Although there are no official Sony-manufactured faceplates, many gaming enthusiasts have created their own custom faceplates. If you bought a new faceplate off of eBay or a similar site, installing it is fast and relatively easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the exterior of your PSP with a soft cloth and some water to remove any dust or particulates that might contaminate the inside of the PSP. Remove the memory card, any games in the UMD drive, the battery door and the battery itself.

    • 2

Place the PSP face down and then remove the four screws from the PSP using a small eyeglass screwdriver. Two of these screws are on the outside, and the other two are hidden under the battery plate and the warranty sticker. Set these screws aside.

    • 3

Gently lift the analog nub up and then softly pull the current PSP face off. Remove the two screws from the analog unit. Grab your new faceplate and screw the analog unit into the analog space.

    • 4

Take the plastic covers off your PSP's face buttons (square, circle, triangle and square) and then click them into place on your new faceplate. Then, remove the bottom row of buttons and transfer them to the new faceplate.

    • 5

Ensure that all the buttons are connected. Then, replace the faceplate over the cover of the PSP and screw it into place using the same screws you removed in Step 1.

Tips & Warnings

  • Changing your PSP faceplate will void your warranty, so if you are not comfortable with this fact, then it is best to leave your PSP's original faceplate intact.
