How to Find Hidden Information on a Hard Drive

A computer system uses hundreds or even thousands of files, many of which are never seen by a normal user. Sometimes files and information can be hidden to prevent users from accessing it. However, this information can usually be revealed and displayed by a determined computer owner. While there are many ways to conceal data, the most common method uses Windows to hide certain files. Revealing Hidden Files

1. 

   In Windows, click the "Start" button. Then click "My Computer."

2. 

   Once the "My Computer" window opens, click "Tools" and then "Folder Options."

3. 

   On the Folder Options screen, click the "View" tab. This will display a list of options. To reveal files that have been hidden, check this box: "Display the Contents of System Folder." Also press the button labeled "Show hidden files and folder." When finished, press "OK."
