How to Play Mov Files on iPhone

Files with the extension .mov--such as "Kitten.mov"--are QuickTime Movies that are playable on just about every computer. However, you may not be able to play these files on your iPhone unless you convert them to a different format. You'll need to create a duplicate movie file for use specifically on an iPhone. Fortunately, it only takes a few clicks to be able to play .mov files on your iPhone.

      Locate .mov files on your computer that you'd like to play on your iPhone. Import the movies into iTunes, if they aren't there already, by dragging them into the iTunes library window.

      Select the file(s) you want to convert by clicking on them. If you have multiple files, use command-click (Mac) or right-click (PC).

      Creating the iPhone Version of a .mov File

      Create a version playable on the iPhone by right-clicking (PC) or control-clicking (Mac) then selecting the "Create iPod or iPhone Version" option.

      Plug your iPhone in to your computer and copy the file to it. Alternatively, if you're syncing movies to your iPhone, simply press the "Sync" button.

      Open the video on your iPhone to ensure that it plays. Go to iPod and select "Videos." Tap your video and make sure that both the audio and video tracks work properly.
