Step 1
Check the air pressure in your cars tires regularly. Over-inflating or under-inflating your tires can cause many issues such as blow outs, poor gas mileage, rapid tread wear and increased chance of accidents so it is important to take care in checking your tires air pressure.
-
Step 2
Rotate your tires as recommended as a part of efficient tire care. Typically for most standard vehicles having your tires rotated approximately every 6,000 to 10,000 miles is recommended. This number can vary though so check your cars owner manual or with a tire professional for more exact time frames based on your tires and vehicle.
Rotating your tires will help your tires last longer by distributing the wear on the tread more evenly. -
Step 3
Have your tires aligned or balanced after every 30,000 miles or so. If you don't pay attention to your mileage then make sure you do it right away if you experience any pull (if you release the steering wheel while driving and the car pulls either to the left or right) or unnatural vibration.
-
Step 4
For proper tire care be sure to replace your wheels when the tread shows significant wear. At this point there is nothing you can do to maintain them and failure to replace them at this point can highly increase chances of an accident due to hydroplaning on water, tire blowouts, reduced ability to stop or slow down and more.
