Many people are not going to be able to quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey. There will need to be a gradual process of cutting them out here and cutting them out there. This can be done but the person who is trying to quit needs to make a conscious effort to try and quit. The main reason people can’t give up smoking is because deep down they really don’t want to. This can be changed if you have a little bit of desire and really reach down and try to quit smoking.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Candy
  • Fruit
  • Gum
  • Mints
  • Stress ball
  1. Step 1

Stop smoking during times you always smoke. This means that if you are a smoker after you eat, then don’t smoke after you eat. This can mean anything of this nature whether eating, sleeping or driving.

  2. Step 2

Eat fruit, gum or candy if you are thinking about smoking. Instead of instantly reaching for a cigarette when you get the urge, try to turn your mind to something else. This might not work at first, but in time you can train your mind to stop thinking about cigarettes.

  3. Step 3

Squeeze a stress ball when you are start to get a cigarette craving. Doing something with your hands can help the feeling to pass.

  4. Step 4

Eat a mint after dinner to avoid the craving to smoke.

  5. Step 5

Throw away your cigarette before you finish it. Since you are not going to quit cold turkey, start cutting down the amount of time you smoke.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you start the day with 20 cigarettes and you end the day with five cigarettes, then the next day you are not allowed to smoke more than 15 cigarettes. This will make you start to pick and choose when you smoke and will have a great gradual effect when used honestly and accurately.
