Meatloaf is an inexpensive, traditional comfort food, great for a family dinner. But it's not very healthy, right? Wrong! Meatloaf can be very healthy, if made correctly!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow or dijon mustard
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic powder
  • Oregano
  • Red pepper flakes (if you prefer a little kick!)
  1. Step 1

Place all ingredients in a bowl. Season according to taste and personal preferences. Feel free to add other ingredients as you wish - chopped onion/onion powder, red pepper, chives, etc. Have fun experimenting with different flavors! Mix thoroughly by hand.

  2. Step 2

Spray your broiler pan with cooking spray. Most cooking sprays contain little to no calories.

  3. Step 3

Form the ground turkey mixture into a loaf shape and place on top of the broiler. (Cooking the meatloaf on the broiler allows excess fat to drip down through the pan instead of staying in your dinner!)

  4. Step 4

Bake meatloaf at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, until the edges turn dark brown and start to become slightly crispy.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy! Baked or mashed potatoes and a green vegetable or salad go great with meatloaf!

Tips & Warnings
  • As an alternative to cooking the meatloaf on the broiler pan, you can make meatloaf muffins in a muffin pan. This doesn't allow the fat to drip down, but it makes for easy portion control.
  • Even though you are cooking the meatloaf on the broiler pan, DO NOT broil it! Remember to bake!
  • Don't overcook the meatloaf or it will dry out.

on 6/25/2009 This sounds really good. I will try this since I cannot seem to make a meatloaf that I like. Thanks!
