The iPhone Is A Feature-Packed Smartphone

The iPhone already comes with several applications built-in. For example, the iPhone 3GS comes with a Compass app that can actually help you find your bearings. It also offers Voice Control for making calls or selecting songs to play. The iPhone includes many great features straight out of the box, but if you really want to make your iPhone unique, there is so much more that is available from Apple's own App Store.

Sign Up For An iTunes Account If You Don't Already Have One

To access the App Store, you first need an iTunes account. You can signup for one on your iPhone by going to Settings > Store. If you already have an iTunes account, your iPhone will use those account settings when you sync it with your computer.

Browse The App Store To Find The Applications You Want

To begin using the App Store, your iPhone must be connected to the internet. Then, just tap on the blue App Store icon on the screen to launch the application. Once the App Store is up, you can look through the Featured selections, Recommended apps, the Top 25 Apps, or even search for specific applications you need. You can browse through lists under categories like New, Top Paid, or Top Free. Most Apps in the Store do cost money, but there are Free Apps available too!

Most of the Apps for sale in the App Store cost between .99 and $9.99. When you see an App that you are interested in, tap on it to see it's info screen to read more about what it does and how much that particular application costs.

Purchase Apps With Your iTune Account - Many Are Free!

When you find an application that you want for your iPhone, you must tap the Price (or tap Free), and then tap Buy Now. You will then be prompted to enter your iTunes account information. (If you don't have an iTunes account, at this point you can also tap Create New Account to setup one.) Enter your information and then tap OK. The application will begin downloading and your account will be charged. You will see the Apps icon appear on your Home screen with a status bar showing it's download progress.

You can also open iTunes on your computer and download Apps from the iTunes Store under the App Store section. When you connect your iPhone to your computer, you can then transfer the apps to your iPhone.
Step 6

You don't have to invest a lot of money into applications in order to customize your iPhone the way you like it! As mentioned above, there are many iPhone applications that are free to download and use. You can browse the Free category in the Apps Store, or go to one of the many websites that list and review some of the top rated free downloads. Sites such as 148apps.com and freeiphoneapplications.com can help you find out what's available for free and which ones are worth having.
