Choose from over 350,000 apps for the iPhone.

Apple revolutionized the smartphone market in 2007 with the launch of iPhone. With access to over 350,000 downloadable applications --- many of them free --- users can personalize their devices to their tastes. The App Store offers something for everyone, from productivity and travel apps to games and publications. The iPhone comes with several apps installed as part of the operating system. Among them are iPod, Mail, Calendar, Photos, Safari Web browser, Camera, YouTube, Maps, Weather and Notes. Additionally, users receive Contacts, Game Center, the App Store and Voice Memos.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for an Apple ID if you don't already have one; you'll need it to download apps from the App Store. If you do not have an Apple ID, you are prompted to sign up for one at the time of your first download from the App Store. You can also sign up for an Apple ID using iTunes on your computer.

    • 2

Tap on the blue App Store icon on the home screen of the iPhone to launch the app. Browse the store using the icons at the bottom of the screen or the buttons at the top of the screen. View by Category, Top Selling, What's Hot and Featured or use Search to find a specific app or developer. When you see an App that interests you, tap it to see the information screen and to read more about what it does and how much it costs.

    • 3

Tap the "Price" button or tap "Free. You are prompted to enter your Apple ID information. Enter the information and tap "OK." The application downloads to your iPhone immediately and your account is charged. The app appears on one of the iPhone home screens with a status bar showing download progress.

Open iTunes on your computer and download Apps from the iTunes Store under the App Store section, if you prefer. When you connect the iPhone to your computer, those apps transfer to the phone. The apps purchased on the iPhone sync to the iTunes application on the computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apps that you've downloaded directly to your iPhone will be synced and copied to your iTunes Library on your computer when you connect the two.

  • If you lose your internet connection while downloading an App, or you turn your iPhone off, the download will continue when you reconnect or power back up.

  • Applications are available for the iPhone, the iPod Touch, and the iPad.
