Step 1
There are two primary ways to purify water; boiling and bleach. Use the boiling method if possible. If the water is cloudy, filter the water through a cloth before conducting either method.

To boil water, place water in a pan or a container and place over a heat source into the water boils for at least 1 minute. You can place water in a plastic container if this is a last resort. Tie the container on a string and swing the bottle of water back and forth slowly over the heat source. Let the water cool before drinking.

Step 3
If boiling water is not possible, add household bleach to your water. Do not add too much bleach to your water. I have included a link in the resource section that describes how much bleach to add to for different amounts of water. After adding the bleach, let the water stand for at least 40 minutes before consuming.
