Things You'll Need:
- Directory of pet grooming services in your area.
- A check-list of do's and don'ts for the groomer to follow.
-
Step 1
Look locally for pet grooming services in your neighborhood. Smaller establishments, rather than franchised chain stores, offer more personalized care and are interested in getting repeat business.
-
Step 2
Not all groomer specialize in all breeds. Some of the more stylized breeds -- for example, poodles -- require a knowledge of the breed-specific cut. Ask your groomer about his or her skills if this is what you are interested in getting.
-
Step 3
Be very clear about your expectations -- good idea to bring a check list. Some groomers prefer to shave all or parts of the coat, rather than spend the time and technical expertise with scissors. If you don't want your dog shaven say so! Sometimes severe matting necessitates a shave.
-
Step 4
Make sure they pay special attention to the ears and eyes by cleaning them with sterilized swabs. Be clear about any alergies or sensitivities your pet has and ask about what products the groomer uses.
