If you have oily skin, there are herbs which can be used to help with the condition. Rosemary and chamomile are excellent for treating oily skin conditions. Both of these herbs are easy-to-grow perennial herbs and really should be a part of any herb garden. If you do not have these herbs in your garden, you can visit your local fresh market or herbal store. The dried leaves and flowers can be used in place of the fresh. This is a simple cleanser, which is easily made at home and which does not require any special essential oils or exotic herbs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 oz. Fresh Rosemary
  • 2 oz Fresh Chamomile Flowers
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  1. Step 1

Collect about 2 ounces of fresh rosemary. Be sure to use the tender top parts of the plant. (You can use about 1 ounce of rosemary if you are using dried rosemary. I do prefer the fresh, though, when using for cosmetic applications.)

  2. Step 2

    Chamomile flowers

Collect 2 ounces of fresh chamomile flowers. (You can use 1 ounce of the dried chamomile flowers if you prefer.)

  3. Step 3

Make an infusion by pouring boiling water over your herbs, covering, and allowing them to steep overnight.

  4. Step 4

The next day, strain the infusion you made the night before and add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. Refrigerate and use as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Chamomile flowers have slightly astringent qualities and can be used on all types of skin.
  • While the herbs listed here tend to be mild and seldom cause allergic reactions, you should always test a small patch of skin before using any herb with which you are not familiar.
  • When in doubt about any herbal remedy, consult your physician or a certified herbalist.
