Make your before and after!
Make your before and after!

With today's economic crunch, most of us don't have the funds to remodel. If you're interested in giving your kitchen or bath a high end makeover for a low end cost, consider the following...

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • some time, ambition, creativity, and a few tools!
  1. Step 1

For a quick "high end" fix, PAINT...change your wall color to a rich and light neutral...nothing says "high class" like a coat of almond or light suntan paint...remember to tape and be neat with your job...you want it to look professional, not "self done"...also, choose matte for a ritzy look (unless you have small kids or are a messy cook - semi gloss is better for these cases).

  2. Step 2

Faux finish your countertops...you can give any countertop the look of granite...you will find lots of instructions for this process online. I did this to all the countertops in my home and now everyone I know is doing the same! It looks great and won't cost you more than 25 - 50 bucks!

You may also want to update you current cabinets with a coat of primer and paint...new knobs can help too...remember, be neat and professional with your work!

  3. Step 3

Update your fixtures. You can get new faucets and fixtures for realitively cheap and this will make a huge difference!

  4. Step 4

If you can, replace ugly flooring...if you can't afford the real deal try peal and stick (I have them in two of my bathrooms...done well, they look like the real thing)..or try some creatively chosen floor rugs (rugs with colors that complement your existing floor as well as your new wall color will tie the room together without looking cheap).

  5. Step 5

Replace outdated window coverings with sheers or tasteful blings. If your current coverings are tattered, replace them with soemthing light and airy.

  6. Step 6

FINALLY- clean, clean, clean...old appliances can look new if you clean them with some serious elbow greese. Scrub everything down and give the whole place a new feeling!
