Step 1
GET UP! GET DRESSED! AND VISIT YOUR LOCAL EMPLOYMENT OFFICE -
Dress as if you may see a potential employer that day. This will help motivate you for your job search.
Once at the employment office, find out what type of programs they offer and sign up.
Many states have been given federal dollars to retrain unemployed persons for free.
Get your resume on their online job bank. This puts you in the running for jobs within your area.
The great thing about going to the employment office verses working on your own, is there are career assistants there to help you word your resume in a marketable way.
You can also use your employment office to fax your resume to job ads, use the phone to call potential employers and receive job leads. -
Step 2
VISIT YOUR OLD ALMAMADA (COLLEGE)-
Colleges have career services that they offer their grads, even if you attended many years ago.
Some will even offer career services if you did not complete your program of study.
They have job leads that are not printed in the newspaper or online. Thus you are competing against a smaller pool of applicants. -
Step 3
IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM JOIN 'EM-
Go back to school. If you are unemployed, chances are you qualify for Federal Financial Aid.
Apply for The Work Study Program. But get in soon because schools are limited on Work Study Funds. -
Step 4
STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD-
Market yourself, much the same way as Tide Laundry soap or a General Salesmen.
You are offering a product (your services) and your resume is your business card. Make it stand out.
-Use Ivory Paper
_Use a matching envelope
_use an email that markets you or your ability
