Things You'll Need:
- a desire to use all tools possible to control the debilitating effects of hot flashes
-
Step 1
The most common symptom of menopause (as well as peri-menopause is hot flashes, which can even interrupt your sleep pattern. Hot flashes is momentary feeling , as if you innerds contain a blast furnace, which turns on at it's own will, with accompanying face flushing.
-
Step 2
You cannot prevent hot flashes entirely, but know that certain triggers increase the frequency and intesity of these episodes:
cigarette smoking, spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, stressand tight clothing. Reducing or stopping any of these behaviors WILL help. -
Step 3
Also hepful, is to increase your physical activity, practice deep breathing as the flash starts, and stay as cool as possible. But a "chill" pillow and leave a window cracked open @ night, to help with sleep.
-
Step 4
There are OTC, "natural supplements " that may be helpful. Or, if there is no maternal history of cancer, your doctor may order low dose estrogen therapy for up to 5 years.
