How to Make a Desktop Screenshot on deviantART

If you have a really awesome desktop background, why not share it with the world? deviantART members can upload pictures of their desktops for everyone to see. deviantART has a special category for desktop screenshots, and many people make interesting new contributions every day. Here's everything you need to know to save a picture of your desktop and upload it to the site.

Instructions

1. Close or minimize all the windows on your computer until you can see your desktop. If you're using a Windows machine, press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard. This key is normally located along the top of the keyboard and is abbreviated as "Prnt Scrn." If you're using a Macintosh, press "Command-Control-Shift-3" to take a picture of the desktop. Press "Command-Control-3" if you want to take a picture of the screen and save it on the desktop.

2. Open any photo-editing program, such as Adobe Photoshop. Click "File" at the top and choose "New." Click "OK" to create a blank canvas on the screen.

3. Click the "Edit" menu at the top. Choose "Paste" from the list. You can also press "Ctrl + V" on the keyboard instead. The picture of your desktop will appear on the blank canvas. If you saved the file to your desktop, click "File" and select "Open." Choose the file from your desktop and click "Open."

4. Click the "File" menu at the top and choose "Save As." Enter a name for your picture under "File Name" and choose "JPEG" from the "Format" drop-down box.

5. Click "Save."

6. Open your Internet browser and log into your deviantART account. Click the arrow by your name and choose "Submit Deviation."

7. Click the "Choose" button beside "Category" and select "Desktop & Customization > Desktop Screenshots > Windows." If your desktop is from a different system or device change "Windows" to the appropriate selection.

8. Click "OK." Click the "Add a File" button. Find the picture you saved of your desktop and click "Open." Wait for the image to finish uploading.

9. Fill out the rest of the information on the page, such as the title of your picture and a description, and click "Submit."
