How to Access Print Screen
Print screen is a feature that allows you to capture a stationary picture of any image on your desktop at any given time. Print screen images are often used to create step-by-step tutorials. You can capture the entire desktop, or just the active screen. You can capture screen images through a simple key combination on your keyboard. There are numerous programs available that allow for more advanced print screen images. However, by using your keyboard, you can create print screen images that can be easily edited through any image editing software.

Open the screen you want to print. For instance, if you want to capture the screen of an application, open the application, and open the screen for your capture.

Press the "Prt Sc" or "Print Screen" button. The name depends on your keyboard.
Some keyboards require you to press a function button in order to use print screen. In this case, press "Fn" + "Prt Sc." You will know if a function button is required if the print screen button is the same color as the function key, or has a square around it like the function key. -

Capture just the active screen, instead of the whole screen and the entire desktop, by pressing "Alt" while pressing the print screen button. For instance, to capture a small instant message window, you would press "Alt" + "Prt Sc" or "Alt" + "Fn" + "Prt Sc."

Copy your image to an image editor. Most operating systems have a free image editor. You can also copy the image into the word processor in Microsoft Office or Open Office. You can also copy the image into the free Windows tool Paint, which works similar to the free editor in most Linux distributions.
Open Paint by going to "Start -- All Programs -- Accessories -- Paint." Press "Ctrl" + "V" to copy the image into Paint. -

Crop and edit the image as necessary and go to "File -- Save As." Choose a name and a file type such as .jpg, .gif. or .bmp.
