How to Use Blur in Corel Draw

CorelDRAW is one of the top vector graphics programs on the market. It is used by professionals worldwide. It has an array of tools that let you create vector shapes and then apply effects to them. However, one thing that may confuse users coming from other programs is the way CorelDRAW handles blurring. This article will show you how to use this function in CorelDRAW.

Instructions

    • 1

Open CorelDRAW. Then open a file with a filled shape you want to add blur to (we'll call it a blue circle).

    • 2

Duplicate the circle. Then "Move" the bottom circle, offsetting it slightly toward the lower right corner from the other one. Now drag a "Marquee" selection around both shapes, and click "Trim." This separates the part of the bottom shape that was showing. Drag the separated piece to the right out of the way, and color it black.

    • 3

Duplicate the circle again, offsetting the circle to the upper left this time. Again drag a "Marquee" selection around both shapes, and click "Trim." Color this part white. Rearrange the layers so that the full circle shape is on the bottom.

    • 4

Realign the various shapes so they overlap again. Select one of the smaller separated parts, and then select Bitmap and click "Convert to Bitmap." In the dialog, click on Anti-aliasing and Transparency, and then click "OK." Then do the same for the other smaller separated part. Use the "Transparency" tool to lower the transparency for the two separate sections.

    • 5

Select both of the two separated parts, and place them behind the main circle. Select Effects, then PowerClip, and click "Place Inside Container." Click the arrow you see on the main circle to clip the edges.
