The Nintendo Wii video game console comes equipped with Wi-Fi capability to allow the console to connect to the Internet. By connecting your Wii to the Internet, you can download games, surf the Internet and connect with friends around the globe. You can also use your wireless connection to play games online with specific or random users. You can connect your Wii to an existing wireless network by configuring the connection settings of your console.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn your Nintendo Wii console on and wait for the unit to load. Click on the "Wii" button at the bottom left-hand corner of the main menu. The button will display "Wii Options" when you hover your cursor over the icon.

  2. Step 2

Select the "Wii Settings" option with the image of a wrench. Click on the right arrow to view more options, and select the "Internet" button. Choose "Connection Settings" from the next menu.

  3. Step 3

Click on "Connecton 1" to set up an Internet connection for the Wii. Choose "Wireless Connection" to use a Wi-Fi connection. Click on the "Search for an Access Point" button on the next screen.

  4. Step 4

Wait for your console to finish scanning for available wireless networks. Click "OK" to continue. The Wii will bring up a list of available wireless networks to connect to. Select the desired Wi-Fi connection.

  5. Step 5

Input the network's password if required. A password is required for all secured networks. Click "OK" to save the Wi-Fi connection settings. Click "OK" on the next screen to test the Wi-Fi connection.

Tips & Warnings
  • Encrypt your wireless network with a password to keep your connection secure. If the connection is successful, your Wii may ask for permission to install updates. You can install updates immediately or at a later time. If your Wii did not connect successfully, you may need to reenter the password or choose a different wireless network to connect to.
