How to Make a Skull Cake

The key to a cool Halloween party lies in creating the right atmosphere. You need all the trimmings, from dangling spiders to cobwebs and jack-o'-lanterns. But one thing that you might add that's less common is a skull cake. This grinning treat is easy to make if you have the right equipment. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Buy a skull cake pan. If you can't find one in your area, they are readily available online (see Resources section).

      Follow the instructions on the box of cake mix for making the batter. Spray the inside of your cake pan with a non-stick spray and pour the cake mixture into the pan. Bake according to the instructions on the box.

      Remove the cake from the oven and let cool. Carefully flip it out on a flat surface with the skull faceup.

      Use dark chocolate icing to decorate the eyes, nose and mouth.

      Cover the rest with white icing.
