How to Enable Javascript Debugging

When programming for a smooth user interface, Javascript errors cause display and functionality errors that ruin a user's experience on a webpage. Enabling Javascript debugging allows you to see the errors returned by the browser and to fix errors and address issues with the code. Browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer come with internal Javascript debugging windows.

Instructions

    • 1

In Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" menu, then select "Internet Options." In the "Options" screen, select the "Advanced" tab.

    • 2

Scroll down the window until you find two checkboxes labeled "Disable Script Debugging" and "Disable Script Debugging (other)." Uncheck these two boxes and press "Ok."

    • 3

In Firefox, click the "Tools" menu and select "Error Console."

    • 4

Click the red "Error" button. This window logs history and shows all the errors returned from websites.

Tips & Warnings

  • Firefox has an internal debugger with a more advanced console. It automatically logs errors and warnings from the browser.
