Indoor palm trees are a beautiful accent to the home decor. There are many types of palm trees but some of the smaller varieties do well indoors. Special considerations have to be taken into account in order to replicate hot and humid conditions. Fans, humidifiers and warmer temperatures for the home are needed for good air circulation, increased humidity levels and a warm atmosphere. There are three types specifically that do very well in the home and are easy to identify.

    Identification

  1. Step 1
    Kentia Palm
    Kentia Palm

Identify the kentia palm by the classic palm design of drooping vivid green leaves that are spiked and arched out. They are usually potted in 15-gallon containers for a 5-7 foot-tall plant or small nursery containers that are about a foot tall.

  2. Step 2

Look for the fan-shaped fronds on single stalks of the lady palm. There will be more than one stalk in the pot, looking like clumps of fan leaves. The leaves have a light green color and grow to 5-7 feet.

  3. Step 3
    Bamboo Palm

Determine a bamboo palm by its name, Chamaedorea, as there are many varieties in this palm tree family. They can either be on one stalk or multiple stalks in the pot. Different sizes are available. Most of them, however, do not look like bamboo. This type will also have the classic look to the leaves as the kentia palm.
