How to Convert an RMVB to a VCD

RMVB stands for Real Media Variable Bit Rate. The compression that is done in RMVB files is dependent upon the type of video file being compressed, which allows for higher quality video in smaller file sizes. It is possible to burn an RMVB video file to VCD, but most DVD-burning softwares cannot read the RMVB file type, so before burning the file to disc, the file must first be converted from RMVB to MPEG.

Instructions

  1. Convert the RMVB file to MPG

    • 1

Check your DVD-burning software. Most major DVD-burning software has the ability to also burn VCDs. If yours doesn't have that option, you will need to download software that can burn to VCD, such as CDBurnerXP. Once you have downloaded the software, complete the installation process by following the screens.

    • 2

Download Xilisoft's RM Converter. Xilisoft's RM Converter can read RMVB files and convert them into several different video file types. Like the burning software, RM Converter offers screens to walk you through the installation of the program onto your computer.

    • 3

Load your RMVB file into the RM Converter. To load a file, click "Add Files." This will bring up a search window. Locate the RMVB file and click "Open."

    • 4

Select "MPEG-1 Format" from the "Profile" menu. This will be the file type that the Xilisoft converter will convert the RMVB file into. MPEG is the file type you will need for a VCD.

    • 5

Designate a destination for your MPEG file. Click "Browse" next to "Destination," find the folder where you would like for the file to save and click "OK."

    • 6

Begin the conversion. To start the process, click "Encode." Progress will be monitored in the "Status" column next to the file name. Once the conversion is done, you will be able to find the file in the destination folder.

    Burn the MPG to VCD

    • 7

Place a blank CD into your computer. Some computers have only one drive that can burn discs. Make sure you have placed your CD in the correct drive.

    • 8

Open your DVD-burning software. Choose the option to "Burn VCD" or "Create VCD."

    • 9

Upload the MPEG file created from the original RMVB. Click on the "Add files" or "Add video" button, browse for the file on your computer and click "Open" to pull the file into the program.

    • 10

Follow the screens through the DVD-burning software until you arrive at the "Burn to disc" screen. Click the "Burn" button to begin burning the MPEG file to disc. The program will track the progress of the CD-burning, and the disc will pop out automatically when burning is complete.
