How to Add Multiple Monitors
If you work with many applications on your computer open at one time, adding multiple monitors may be just the thing you need to streamline your work and save you some time during the day. Flipping through multiple windows to find the right window when you need it can be both time consuming and frustrating. You can add multiple monitors to your computer system and make your workload easier by keeping the windows you need open and available for use.
Instructions

1
Turn off your computer monitor and central processing unit (CPU) to add multiple monitors to your computer system. Unplug the computer power cord from the electrical outlet.
-
2
Unfasten the screws that are holding the cover on the CPU case with a screwdriver and set the screws aside. Slide the cover forward to remove it from the case and place the cover out of the way.

3
Locate any unused slots in the back of the case and use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding one of the slot covers in place. Set the slot cover aside and locate the video card slot in the motherboard just below the open slot in the back of the case.
-
4
Carefully set the bottom of the new video card into the motherboard so that the ports are sticking out the back of the case through the slot. Gently push down evenly on the video card so that it seats properly in the motherboard.
-
5
Slide the cover back over the top of the case and secure it by reattaching the screws. Secure the new video card to the back of the case by using the screws from the slot plate to attach it.
-
6
Plug the new monitor(s) into the new video card ports and plug the power supply cords for the monitors and your computer into an electrical outlet (see Tips section for additional information). Turn your computer and all monitors on.
-
7
Click on the "Start" button on the lower left-hand corner of your computer screen and locate the Devices button in the menu options. Click on "Devices" and locate the Monitors section in the menu.
-
8
Verify that the Monitors section is showing the number of monitors you have hooked up and check to see if they are identified by type of monitor. Type "computer management" in the search bar on the top right of the screen and look for the "Display Adapters" link.
-
9
Place your mouse cursor over the "Display Adapters" link and right-click on the link. Locate the Settings heading on the tabs at the top of the menu and click on "Settings."
-
10
Locate the icons in the window that correspond to your monitors and arrange the icons in the physical order of your monitors by dragging and dropping them in place. Reboot your computer by clicking the "Restart" button on your Start menu, and when the system comes back up, you're ready to use your multiple monitors.

To prevent overload and danger to your system, plug electrical power supply cords into a surge protector.
Always ground any metal tools that you are working with before using them on the computer by touching them to a metal object like a table leg to avoid electrical shorts in the computer hardware.
