How to Create a Blank Graph

Producing your own graph is often a necessary task for math class. It is also a great way to show visually what is happening in a formula or math problem. You can produce a graph in one of two ways: drawing it by hand or by finding and downloading a template from the Internet and printing it.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide how many squares you need and the size of each square. For example, the squares on typical graph paper are 1/4 inch.

    • 2

Draw a straight line across the bottom of your sheet of paper using a ruler. Using the protractor, mark a 90-degree angle perpendicular to the first line. Following that mark, make a line with a ruler, creating an "L."

    • 3

Measure 1/4 inch to the right. Mark a 90-degree angle again. Use the ruler and draw a line on the 90-degree mark. Repeat the process for as many squares as you require.

    • 4

When you are finished with the vertical lines, turn the paper to the right and begin making intersecting lines. Use the protractor to ensure a 90-degree angle to make perfect squares. Repeat.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have the proper tools to make graphs by hand, you can create them on your computer.
