Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the oven and the stove, making sure each is cool to the touch before cleaning. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and fill a bucket with warm water and a squirt or two of dishwashing liquid.

    • 2

Remove the burner grates and caps, and either soak them in a soapy solution of water and dishwasher detergent (or dishwashing liquid) in the kitchen sink, or run them through the dishwasher. If they are very dirty, soak them first, and then put them in the dishwasher. Gently scrub them with a plastic scouring pad if needed.

    • 3

Remove the knobs (if applicable) from the backsplash and soak them in the sink with the burner grates and caps. Use a rag or sponge to wipe down the stove top. For stubborn gunk, make a paste with baking soda and water and gently rub it on. Wipe with the soapy water--and don't forget that backsplash.

    • 4

Dry the stove grates and caps, and scrub leftover gunk on the knobs with a plastic scouring pad. Next, put them back on your range.

    • 5

Wipe down the front of the ovens, including the door handles. If your oven fronts are made of stainless steel, wipe the doors dry and use a stainless steel cleaner. It will help remove streaks left behind.

    • 6

Open the oven doors and clean the frames around each door with a scouring pad and hot water. Wipe dry with a rag. Then sponge off the inside of the oven doors with the soapy water.

    • 7

Take out the oven racks and clean them in the sink (or the bathtub) with warm, soapy water. Remove baked-on gunk with a plastic scouring pad. Rinse and let them air dry.

    • 8

Shut the oven doors and use the self-cleaning function if available. Otherwise, considering using a fumeless oven cleaner like Easy Off to make the oven-cleaning process as easy as possible. Follow the instructions on the can, coating the walls and floor of each oven with the foam and waiting while it breaks down the burned-on food. Then put on rubber gloves and wipe it all off with a wet rag or sponge.

    • 9

      Replace the oven racks.
