How to Use the iPhone App Store

The iPhone App Store is one of the main features on an iPhone that makes the phone popular among users. The App Store is a location where users can connect and download thousands of different kinds of applications to their iPhones. While some of the applications cost money to download, many applications are free.
The applications are separated into a few different categories. For example, "Games," "Entertainment" and "Social Networking" are all categories that include hundreds of applications in the App Store.

Instructions

    • 1

Create an iTunes account. Before the App Store can be used, the iTunes account must be created. Open iTunes and select "Store" from the menu on the top of the page and choose "Create Account." Enter the proper billing information and the account has been created.

    • 2

Open up the iPhone menu by clicking on the button at the bottom of the phone and then sliding the "Unlock" bar to the right. Find the "App Store" icon on the iPhone. It should be located on the first page. If not, swipe your index finger across the page to move to the next screen. Once the "App Store" icon has been found, press on it with your finger.

    • 3

Wait as the "App Store" loads. This will only take a couple of seconds. The screen that comes up will include two buttons at the top of the page that read "New" and "What's Hot." At the bottom of the page there will be five tabs that read "Featured," "Categories," "Top 25," "Search" and "Updates."

    • 4

Navigate the tabs to find the wanted application. For example, if you want to download the "Facebook" application, click on "Categories." After clicking on this, a new list of categories will appear. Select the "Social Networking" category. A new page will appear that allows you to choose from the top social networking applications.

    • 5

Click on the "Facebook" icon (or whichever app you want), and a new page will appear that includes a small button in the top right corner. The button will say "Free" for free apps or will have a price in it for those applications that cost money.

    • 6

Press the button for a brief moment and release. The button will now say "Install." Install the application by pressing and holding on "Install" for a couple of seconds and then releasing.

    • 7

Enter your iTunes password into the "iTunes Password" box that appears and click on "OK." The app will now be downloaded onto your iPhone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the "Search" button to search for apps by topic.

  • The cost for all paid applications is taken from the account information entered into iTunes. If you change credit cards and do not change the information in iTunes, you will not be able to download apps, regardless if they are free or not.
