      Preheat the iron to the hottest level. If you're using the ammonia option, combine equal parts ammonia and water to make solution.

      Saturate a section of the stain with the solution.

      Place the white towel on top of the saturated section.

      Iron over the towel in ten second increments. A sizzling sound is completely normal. Move the towel around constantly, not allowing it to stay in one spot for more than a second a time. If you leave it too long in one place it may burn the towel and carpet.

      Saturate again. If thirty seconds isn't enough saturate the stain again and repeat the process. You should move from section to section until your carpet is completely spot free.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's important to use a white towel. Your towel will pick up the red color of the stain. To remove the stain from the towel, bleach it. If you use a towel with color in it, it can transfer color to the carpet.
