How to Make Soft Cubed Baby Toys
Soft cubed toys are a great gift for a young baby. You can make them in bright colors to engage the baby and help him develop hand-eye coordination. This project is fairly simple. One block should take less than 1 hour to construct. If you are using a sewing machine, it will likely take closer to 30 minutes. The materials needed are inexpensive and can all be purchased at any craft store. Most of the necessary supplies are items you probably already own. This is also a good sewing project for teaching a young adult how to sew and construct things.

How to Make Soft Cubed Baby Toys
-
1
Measure material so that you have six pieces of material that are 5 inches square. Cut it with sharp scissors.
-
2
Fold over 1/2 inch of material on all four sides of each cloth square. Fold the material so that the patterned side is folded back, because you'll actually be sewing the pieces inside out. Pin down the edges and then iron the seam to create a crisp fold. Take out the pins before sew the pieces together.

3
Lay one square of material on a flat work surface with the patterned side facing up. This piece will be the bottom of the block. Choose the four pieces of cloth you want to be the sides of the block. Sew one edge of each side piece to one side of the bottom square along the 1/2-inch edge. Sew the patterned edge of each piece together.
-
4
Pull two of the side squares up until their joining sides meet and sew the two sides together. Continue sewing together all the side panels until you have create a box with an open top. The back side of the material should be facing out.
-
5
Take the sixth square of material and sew three of its sides to three of the side panels. Leave the fourth side open.
-
6
Flip the block right-side out so that the pattern on the material is facing out.
-
7
Stuff the block with craft or pillow stuffing. The more stuffing you add, the firmer the block will be. When you are done stuffing the block, sew the last two sides together. Because the block is right-side out, you'll need to fold the edge of the material in as you sew it.

Tips & Warnings
If you are making several blocks, measure and cut the material all at once. It will make the whole process go smoother.
Before you begin, make sure each of your six squares are the exact same size. If your measurements are off, the squares will not come together when you are sewing them.
