How to Call the USA
If you are traveling abroad from the USA and need to call home, you may be wondering what the proper protocol is. International calling can be cumbersome if you are unused to it, but some quick research can help you make a call home from anywhere in the world.

Dial two zeroes. This is how you dial "out" of the country in which you are staying. You may hear a dial tone stutter. This is normal.

Press 1. This is the international code for dialing phone number in the United States. Every country has a different code, but for the US, it is just a singular "1".

Dial the full phone number for the party you are trying to reach, including area code. It may take several minutes for the call to connect, and if you are calling from a remote location, you may have to try more than a few times to establish a good connection.

Tips & Warnings
If you are using a calling card to reach the US, you will need to dial the number on the card before dialing the "out" code, as this number will establish your connection and billing.
If you are using a cell phone to dial out internationally, be aware that there are very high International roaming charges for most cell phone plans.
