Levoxyl is the brand name for a formulation of replacement hormone therapy used to treat thyroid conditions, such as goiter, which is an enlargement of the thyroid gland. Once prescribed, synthetic hormones are often taken for the rest of a patient's life. Always talk to your doctor before starting or stopping a hormone replacement therapy.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult with a physician if you are taking Levoxyl and may be at risk for a heart attack. The synthetic hormone in some cases can increase the risk of heart attack, so a doctor may opt to take you off the medication.

  2. Step 2

Be aware that Levoxyl accelerates the body's metabolism, so weight gain is possible after you stop taking the drug.

  3. Step 3

Know that if you have diabetes, your symptoms for this disease may actually improve after you stop taking Levoxyl, which also affects glucose levels (blood sugar).

  4. Step 4

Realize that prolonged use of Levoxyl can in some cases cause bone loss leading to osteoporosis. Talk with a doctor about the advisability of taking calcium supplements to alleviate this possibility.
