Originally designed for appliances in the 1950s and 1960s, the Molex connector has since become an industry standard connector for computers and automobiles. The Molex connector, created by the Molex Products Co., is easily identified by its socket and pin connectors usually used to supply power from one device to another. This product has a great annoyance at trying to unplug or remove it.

Instructions

  1. Removing a Molex Connector

    • 1
Notice the "Hook" Clip on This Connector.

Identify if the Molex connector has a retaining clip. If it does, the retaining clip will need to be released before you can remove the connector. If it does not, skip to Step 3.

    • 2
      Side View of Retaining Clip.

Release the retaining clip by depressing the accessible side of the Molex connector. The retaining clip will act like a teeter-totter. Make sure the retaining clip is continually depressed.

    • 3

Grasp the Molex connector firmly and wiggle it back and forth while pulling outward.

    • 4

If all else fails and the connector is stuck, use a pair of pliers and gently, but firmly, grasp the Molex connector and wiggle it back and forth while pulling outward.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wearing work gloves with a rubber grip will often give you the necessary gripping power to complete this task.

  • If you are using pliers, be extremely careful. Molex connectors are made of plastic and can break easily.
