How to Create a Web Poll
A great way to gauge how the general public is feeling is to conduct a poll. Politicians and business people use polls to make important business decisions. They can even be useful to everyday people who need help with a personal decision, such as a PTA mom deciding what type of cake is preferred at a bake sale. For simplicity you can create a web poll and display it on your website, or send a link around to your friends and family.

1
Visit a web poll code-generating site. There are many, including webpasties.com, polldaddy.com, 99polls.com, freepolls.com, and pollmonkey.com.
-
2
Create an account with the service that you chose. You will usually only need to enter a name and valid email address.
-
-
3
Choose a plan that will fit your needs if the company offers paid services. Anticipate how many visitors you will have on a monthly basis.
-
4
Decide if you want to add additional features to your web poll account, such as "captchas" to stop spammers, filtering options to stop duplicate voters, and customization options to change the look and design of your poll. These features are only offered by some providers.
-
5
Click "Create Poll" or similar to start a new poll. Enter the question, all possible answers, and any tags or keywords (if applicable) to help people find your web poll. Click "Generate, "Create" or similar to get the code for your new poll.
-
6
Open up the html editor that you use to create your web pages (most web designers edit HTML and other web programming languages using Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Coldfusion, Notepad, or other website building programs that are provided by a web host). Open the html page on which you want the web poll to appear. Copy and paste the polling code into the body of your html page and then publish it to the Internet.
-
7
Open your browser and navigate to the page to assure that the web poll is displaying. Test it by placing the first vote.

Tips & Warnings
Use polls to make decisions about your website. For example, ask web visitors to ask why they are leaving the site. Ask users for a general opinion about the site (for example, is the site informative, somewhat helpful, or not useful and why).
Some free poll generator sites are established to farm for email addresses to be sold. If you don't want to risk being spammed at your main work or home email address, use an alternate address that is just for fun.
