How to Convert VOB to ISO

VOB stands for "DVD Video Object." It is the main file on a DVD disc that makes the movie work. Usually, only a DVD player or a computer with a DVD drive would be able to play a VOB file, and it would need to play it off of a DVD disc. But there is a way to play a VOB file without the disc. You can do this by using a virtual CD program, which will virtually copy your disc, including the VOB file, and make an image called an ISO, which you can use to play the VOB file without the disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a program that can deal with ISO files. One example of such a program is PowerISO. Click on the download link at the website, then save the file to your computer when the download window comes up.

    • 2

Double click on the ".exe" file once it downloads to your computer. This particular one should be called "PowerIso.exe" or something similar. Go through the installation process, which will include choosing a directory on your computer for the program.

    • 3

Find your VOB file after the program is installed. You can look by double clicking on "My Computer" on your desktop. If the VOB file is on a DVD, you can find the DVD itself.

    • 4

Right click on the VOB file and you should see an option in the menu there that says "Power Iso." Select that, then you will be given a new set of options. Click on "Add image to file." A new window will appear that says "Save Image File." There will be three options; choose the ".iso file" option at the top.

    • 5

Choose a folder for where the new image file will be saved. The default folder will be listed in the box at the bottom of the window. You can hit the button with the "..." on it to change the folder. When ready, click "OK" and the file will begin converting and saving to your folder.
