We know how stressful a visit to the doctor or the dentist can be. Your pet often feels the same kind of apprehension. You will know by the way they roam around in their carrier. They sometimes whine or become excessively talkative. They might shake or shed more than usual. They might even become ill or soil their carrier. Poor little souls!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Towels-Cloth and Paper
  • Carrier which is large enough to transport your pet
  • Vanilla or water from a can of tuna
  1. Step 1

After placing your pet into the carrier and making sure the carrier is secured in the car, get all medical records that your Veterinarian is going to need. Don't forget the paper towels, in case of an accident.

  2. Step 2

Once there, don't coddle your pet. This will make your pet nervous. They will think something bad is about to happen. Don't let your pet be around other pets or come in contact with the floor. Your pet might contact some sickness from another pet. Once you are inside the examination room, take your pet out of the carrier and put her on the table. Talk to her in a calm and happy voice. If you are tense your pet will feel it and be fearful. If you are comfortable and like the veterinarian, she will relax and like the veterinarian too.

  3. Step 3

Once you return home, the smells of the veterinarian office may make pets that remained at home aggressive. Rub a cloth towel on one of the pets that stayed home. Then swipe it over the returning pet, the other will accept her easier. Leave the carrier door open and let the returning pet come out on her own. Place a dab of vanilla (dog) or water from a can of tuna (cat) on all the pets noses. This may settle the pets down by confusing their sense of smell.

  4. Step 4

If your pet is utterly uncontrollable or dangerous you may ask your veterinarian to give her a sedative or consider a mobile veterinarian, who can treat her at home. I really hope this isn't necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your pet is very sensitive and wants to please you. Try to show them the same love and consideration they give you.
