Find Restless Leg Syndrome Remedies

Restless leg syndrome remedies consist of a couple different techniques. Restless leg syndrome is a neurological condition that causes an irresistible urge to move one's legs. To someone who doesn't experience RLS symptoms, it may sound funny, but it is in fact a real disorder. To be diagnosed with restless leg syndrome you must have: a strong urge to move your legs, your symptoms have to start or worsen when you are resting, your symptoms are relieved by moving your legs, and your symptoms are worse in the evening while you are lying down. There is currently no "cure" for restless leg syndrome but there are treatments available to help the symptoms.

Here are a couple different restless leg syndrome remedies:

Things You'll Need:

  • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)
  1. Step 1

The first thing to check for before choosing a restless leg syndrome treatment is an underlying iron deficiency. This can be done by a simple blood test to check for iron deficiency anemia. If you are in fact inefficient in iron, you will be treated with an iron supplement, vitamin B12, and/or folate.

  2. Step 2

Lifestyle and dietary changes are 2 of the most important restless leg syndrome remedies. Eliminating alcohol, caffeine, and smoking are all important for RLS. You should also be eating a well balanced diet. An unbalanced diet can cause all sorts of different conditions and symptoms that are similar to restless leg syndrome.

  3. Step 3

Restless leg syndrome remedies also include the use of medications. Ropinirole (Requip) and pramipexole (Mirapex) are two medications that are often given for restless leg syndrome treatment. There are other drugs given to people with RLS and they include: dopaminergic agents, sleeping aids, anticonvulsants, and pain relievers. Talk with your doctor about the use of medication to treat restless leg syndrome.

on 11/12/2009 Also try to do some stretching of your legs. Begin VERY slowly by slowly pulling your toes upward. Then point them straight downward. Then pull your anckle upward and point downward. Doing it slowly will help A LOT!
