Step 1
Go to the Microsoft website (www.microsoft.com) and download Service Pack 2 or purchase the disk to be sent to you in the mail. If you choose to download the file, save it to your computer. This is a large file and can take a couple hours to download.

If you download Service Pack 2 XP, go to where you saved it on your computer. If you purchased the disk, insert the disk into the drive on your computer and the installation will start automatically.

Follow the instructions on the screen. When it's finished, your computer will restart automatically.

Click "Start" then "Control Panel" then "System". Click the "General" tab to make sure that you properly installed Service Pack 2 XP.

In order to get future updates, turn on the "Automatic Updates" feature by going to the Control Panel (click Start - then click Control Panel). Then click Automatic Updates and select Automatic.
