Even though debt collectors may not have the best public image (probably along side used car salesmen), debt collectors still can be professional and responsible to those they are collecting from. Here's how.

Step 1) Call within the allotted state and federal time frames when you are allowed to make debt collections. Typically, this means that you can not make a debt collections call after 8:00 p.m. In other words, do not be hounding debtors at midnight--it's crude, rude, and against the law!

Step 2) Be polite, courteous, and respectful. Everyone is having difficulties making money in these recession times so don't be rude to someone just because you think you can. Most people--if they really could--would pay their monthly balances. With the recession the way it is right now, this is not an option for some.

Step 3) Try to switch it up. Switching it up will help avoid the monotony of being a debt collector. Day 1 make debt collections telephone calls...day two send out notices in the mail....day 3 make personal visits...day 4 etc. If you think you are sounding annoying on the phone, you probably are!
