Things You'll Need:
- self control
-
Step 1
gossipSurround yourself with positivity. Leave the negative depressing bickering behind you ,and move forward towards a more positive atmosphere. Your attitude can undergo a great transformation just by doing this.
-
Step 2
Focus on your priorities. If you have truly made it a goal to refrain from gossiping, sacrifice spending time with the people you know will only make you stumble. Keep busy by making yourself better at whatever is keeping you busy.
-
Step 3
gossipingOffice gossip can be hard to deal with, so avoid the same group of people that you know are more than likely going to bad-mouth somebody else. Make it clear by distancing yourself from the group that gossips that you don't care to be part of their wasted energy by talking about others. Like mentioned on step 2, stay true to your goal and be proud of the changes you've made. Remember, taming your tongue is a difficult challenge.
-
Step 4
If distancing is not an easy option because you might have to work side-by-side with them, change the subject whenever you feel a negative conversation is about to arise. Make it clear you are not comfortable or simply don't care about the matter. This will make it evident to those around you, that you prefer to let the matter go. You should divert everybody's attention to a more pleasant topic.
-
Step 5
bad-mouthingIf it is still difficult to avoid gossip, try praising the person who is being spoken about. If others see nothing good in them, you might want to mention the great qualities about the person. Praise and make mention of their good actions instead of making negative comments. This will ,surely, make it clear to the others that you are not interested in gossiping.
