The Late Show With David Letterman is currently the longest running late night talk show on television. The next time you're in New York City, you may think about experiencing a Letterman episode by joining Dave's live TV audience. Tickets to the Late Show tapings can be acquired through the Internet or in person at the studio. This article will walk you through both ways of getting free tickets to the Letterman TV tapings.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To apply for TV tickets online, visit the URL below in "Resources." Fill out the form on the page with your personal information and the name of the guest you are taking (if you have one), along with three dates for tapings you would like to attend.

  2. Step 2

Wait. Representatives from the Late Show With David Letterman will call you, at which point you will be asked a trivia question about the show. Tickets will be awarded to you depending upon a correct answer to the question. The call can come at any time, and you aren't promised one; it all depends on ticket availability.

  3. Step 3

To apply for Letterman tickets in person, visit the lobby of the address below between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday through Sunday. A representative will meet with you. The address is:

    1697 Broadway
    New York City, NY 10019

Do not arrive for tickets before 9 a.m.

  4. Step 4

Again, you must wait for a call from the show that can come at any time up until the day before the TV taping.

  5. Step 5

Your last chance of scoring seats at Letterman is through stand-by tickets. Call 212-247-6497 at 11 a.m. on the day of the tapings to submit your name. Show up to the theater an hour before the Late Show begins. If there are any seats open, they will be given to stand-by attendees in the order calls were received.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more dates you list that you could attend, the better chance you have of receiving television tickets.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to attend the taping. Bring a photo ID. Your name and age on the ID must match the name and age you submitted in order for the ticket to be used.
  • The Dave Letterman tickets are non-transferable.
  • Due to high demand, a person may apply for free Letterman tickets only once in a six-month period. After attending a Late Show taping, you must wait six months before reapplying for tickets.
