Credit cards for college students are sometimes a necessity. In college, many students get their first credit cards. But it's important to know which credit card to pick. Many credit card companies offer special student credit cards for college students, and others will cut you a discount on credit card interest or credit card monthly fees if you tell them you're a college student. Getting the best credit card for college students can be tricky, so it's important to do your research and choose your student credit card wisely.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do your research. Many credit card companies offer special student credit cards for college students. Look into these programs to see if the credit card rates seem payable. Think about what you will need to use your credit card for.

  2. Step 2

Choose a credit card company that offers you perks that will actually be applicable to your credit card spending. Many student credit card offers include things like cash back offers on groceries and textbooks, plus travel perks like credit card miles.

  3. Step 3

Don't be fooled by offers that seem too good to be true. While many student credit cards for college students will claim to be offering a 0 interest credit card, or 0 apr credit card, it's important to do your research. The credit card company that's trying to get you to sign up for a 0 interest credit card may be pulling you in for a "0 interest credit card" with hidden costs.

  4. Step 4

Be careful. When signing up for your first credit card it is always important to be careful. Just like with the potential "0 interest credit card" some credit card companies offering credit cards for college students may try to take advantage of how little you may know about managing your credit as a college student.

  5. Step 5

Make all of your credit card payments on time. A credit card is not magical, and you shouldn't spend more money than you have. If you go into credit card debt in college, it may be hard to get out of credit card debt from your credit card for college students later.
