Step 1
Visit your local library and see if they offer free online access to business directories. Many libraries offer free access to online databases such as ReferenceUSA and Associations Unlimited. Getting access is often as simple as visiting the library's Web site and entering your library card number.
-
Step 2
If your library doesn't offer free access to online databases, see if they have printed business directories in the reference section. Many libraries have a business reference collection with directories such as The Book of Lists and Ward’s Business Directory of U.S. Private and Public Companies. You can photocopy the pages you need or look up specific contacts.
-
Step 3
Search for "free business leads" on Google to find companies offering free trial subscriptions to their online databases. You may need to sign up with a credit card to get the free offer, so be sure to cancel your subscription before the free trial period is over to avoid being charged.
-
Step 4
To find local new business leads, visit the Web site of your local chamber of commerce. Many publish a directory of members with contact information.
-
Step 5
Join Jigsaw.com to get free business leads. Once you sign up, you can earn points by adding new contacts or updating existing contacts. You can then purchase business leads using the points you earn.
-
Step 6
If you are searching for a contact at a particular company, use Google and networking sites such as LinkedIn. If you can't find the person's contact information try searching for their name along with "email" or "telephone number" on Google. Often, the person's email address or phone number will appear somewhere in the search results.
