Installing a trailer hitch on a 2006 Chevy HHR is not that hard. To get started on installing a trailer hitch, just follow the steps below.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get your vehicle up in the air. Support it on jack stands.

  2. Step 2

You will need to lower the exhaust pipe. To do this, remove the rubber hangers that hold the exhaust in place.

  3. Step 3

On the frame of the car is two small holes that need to be larger. Use a drill to make it bigger.

  4. Step 4

Now you need to get the bolts through the frame of the car. Use fishing wire to get the bolts through the frame. Tie the fishing wire onto the bolt and work the fishing wire through the frame until the bolt gets into the hole.

  5. Step 5

Take the hitch up and install it into the frame of the car. Now bolt down the hitch.

  6. Step 6

Torque down everything. Reinstall the rubber hangers for the exhaust and you are good to go.
