eHow is fast becoming a great community of writers, both novice and experienced. In order to keep a community growing, members should follow the rules and maintain their integrity as a writer. In other words, play by the eHow rules.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    eHow's Writer Compensation Program

    eHow's Writer Compensation Program

Once you have signed up for the eHow Writer Compensation Program (WCP), you will be anxious to start making money on eHow. It is important to get off to a good start by writing original articles.

Articles are not considered original if you take someone elses work and re-word it. That might not be plagiarism in your eyes, but it is not at all ethical or acceptable on eHow. Write what you know and take your time. No one gets rich over night at anything but you can earn an excellent residual income on eHow provided you play by the rules.

  2. Step 2

Format your articles properly. You must use the "How to" format when writing the title of your eHow article and it must make sense. "How To Television" is not an appropriate title and shows that you are just writing this piece to gain Google rankings. "How to Fix a Television" is a title that both makes sense and is within the eHow submission guidelines.

Your article also needs to be written in logical, easy to read steps. This is not the place for poetry or personal blogging. Readers want to learn something from your article. If the reader is left to assume what the next step is because you don't feel you need to write all of the steps, your article is going to lack the quality that eHow is looking for.

  3. Step 3

Rating articles is a big part of the eHow community. However, rating your own articles or asking friends and family to click on the ad links is completely unacceptable. The ads are closely monitored for link-spamming and you could end up with your eHow account closed.

The best practice is to write great, original articles and promote them properly. There are links to information about promoting your eHow articles in the resources section.

  4. Step 4

Sending mass messages through eHow messaging to promote your articles is considered spamming. eHow has a great set of groups that you can join under the 'Community' tab. Join several groups and get to know others in the community. This is a great chance to share your articles and read what others are writing. If you don't see a group you are interested in, create your own and invite others to join you.

  5. Step 5

eHow is not the place to advertise your business. Sending out spammy messages about how you are making loads of money on another site or putting this information in the comments section of member's articles is another example of not playing by the eHow rules. If you have a legitimate business, then you can post a link to it on your profile. Leaving comments that contain information about your business is not only against the rules, it's obnoxious.

  6. Step 6

Earning a residual income on eHow is not difficult if you write quality articles and pay attention to the eHow TOS (Terms of Service). If you have a question, post it in the forums (under the 'Community' tab). It is far better to ask before doing if you are unsure. Otherwise you may find yourself prohibited from writing on eHow.

on 11/11/2009 Thanks! I really don't like the spammy emails asking for people to read articles. If your content is good, the people will come.
