Things You'll Need:
- 3 cups of white granulated sugar
- 1 packet of bread making yeast (I use Fleischmann's)
- 1 can of frozen juice concentrate
- Water
- Cleaned out gallon sized milk jug
- Balloon
- Rubberband
- Small funnel
-
Step 1
Choose what type of juice concentrate you are going to use by deciding if you want a red wine or a white wine. For a red wine choose purple grape or strawberry juice. For a white wine choose a white grape or apple juice. Avoid citrus juices such as orange, tangerine or grapefruit. These won't work.
-
Step 2
Defrost the frozen juice by letting it sit in a bowl of warm water for an hour.
-
Step 3
Using the funnel, pour the yeast, sugar and juice into the milk jug.
-
Step 4
Shake the ingredients together.
-
Step 5
Fill the rest of the milk jug with warm (not hot!) water. This will activate the yeast. Put the lid on the jug and shake the ingredients together. Then, take off the lid.
-
Step 6
Slide the balloon's end over the top of the milk jug and wrap the rubber band around the neck of the milk jug and the balloon to make sure that the balloon stays on during the wine making process.
-
Step 7
Set the wine in a dark, warm place, at around 70 degrees. The balloon will fill with gases as the juice ferments. This is how you know the process is working.
-
Step 8
Remove the balloon when it has deflated. This will take around 3-6 weeks.
-
Step 9
Pour your homemade wine into a bottle (I use old wine bottles)and enjoy.

on 9/27/2009 When I went to the store to buy the ingredients there weren't any packets so i bought the small jar of fleischmanns. I kind of guestimated and mixed 3 Tbls of yeast with 3 cups of sugar and followed the rest of the recipe last night. I checked the gallon this morning and saw that it is actually bubbling away. So i assume everything is ok and the juice is fermenting fine.
