Step 1
Wash like-colored towels together to avoid color blending..blue and red towels washed with white towels might result in a load of pink and purple towels!
Use a good quality fabric softener as well as a good quality detergent, then a good smelling brand of dryer sheets in the dryer, to maximize fresh scent and softness. *See suggestions at the end of this article to GO GREEN in your laundry room! -
Step 2
Once you have them all dry, you can begin the folding process!
Fold each towel in half as if hanging from a towel rack, not lengthwise, but rather folded across the width.
Fold in half again the same way, so that it is folded into fourths. -
Step 3
Now take the towel and fold it over itself evenly twice, both times toward the middle, so that you will be folding the towel into three equal sections.
You should have a nice smelling, fluffy, soft, beautifully folded thick-looking towel!
If your towels are huge, such as bath sheets, and super thick, this triple folding won't be necessary, so just fold the last time in half rather than into thirds. -
Step 4
Stack the towels the same direction so that the folded sides are all on the same side and the open unfolded ends are all facing the same direction on the other side.
-
Step 5
For a more attractive, well-balanced towel stack, be sure to put same-sized towels together, working from largest size on the bottom to smaller sizes on the top. Hand towels and washcloths should be in separate stacks.
If you have a large number of towels, you will need to divide the stacks into manageable sizes, around 6 to 8 towels per stack.
Color coordination when stacking is an added bonus, if possible, especially if they are out on display somewhere in the room. You can make patterns with the color stacking if you feel inclined, such as alternating colors. -
Step 6
Some other display ideas include filling a large decorative box, painted tub, or a sturdy basket full of towels that have been rolled up into tall spirals and stacked vertically, like a flower arrangement, and displayed somewhere in the bathroom for easy access and an eye appeal.
-
Step 7
As towels wear out or get ragged looking, toss into the trash and replace with new ones.
If you are trying to REUSE and RECYCLE, you can tear the old worn-out ones into rags for cleaning your cars, or dusting and shining around the house.
