Things You'll Need:
- A Good Book
- A Good Book Review
-
Step 1
First, read the book and then write the book review. In your review article, give the name of the author and the title of the book in the first paragraph. Don’t make the reader guess what book you are reviewing. To make sure your review is a hot topic, chose a book from the list of best sellers. Also put the name of the author and the title of the book in your article headline so it will come up in the search engines. If this book is part of a series, tell the name of the series.
-
Step 2
In the introductory paragraph of your review, state the type of book or the genre the book belongs to: such as fiction or non-fiction, horror or crime drama, romance or western.
-
Step 3
Now that the stats are out of the way, you are ready to begin your review. Write your review as if you were talking to a friend and you want your friend to read the book. Keep your tone conversational. Tell what you enjoyed about the book and why.
-
Step 4
Briefly describe the setting of the book. Is it a place you would like to visit someday or stay far away from? Does the character travel to interesting places or meet interesting people?
-
Step 5
Describe the book's main characters. Give your opinion on what characters you liked and disliked.
-
Step 6
Write a brief summary of the plot but never give away the ending or any unexpected twists. Tell enough about what happens in the book to know whether the reader will find it interesting, but not so much information they can guess the ending! Summarize the plot in a way that will answer some questions about the book, but leave other questions in the reader's mind. It may help to make a list of questions about the book for yourself before you begin writing your book review.
-
Step 7
Include a short quote from the story to give the author a voice in your review. Allow the reader to get a feel for the writing style of the author. Use just a few quotes and remember to use quotation marks in your review to identify the passage as text from the book.
-
Step 8
State your final opinion on if this is a (1) book to buy, (2) a book to borrow or (3) a book to forget. If you are reviewing an older book, state if the book has been honored with awards since it was first published. Don’t forget to edit and re-edit your book review – quality workmanship is important.
-
Step 9
Decide where to post your book review: There are several sites you can post book reviews, the first of course being your blog, website, MySpace or FaceBook page. However, to get paid for your book review, considering posting it on freelance writing sites such as: Associated Content.com, Bukisa.com, Helium.com or Hubpages.com. Each of these sites allows you to publish book reviews. You are paid by the views or hits your book review receives. Therefore, the hotter the book, the more searched the review, the more money you make.
-
Step 10
And finally, get the news out there right away! Once you have posted your book review, use Digg.com, StumbleUpon.com, Xomba.com or my favorite, Twitter.com to let all your friends and family know you have published a book review on-line. The more traffic you drive to your book review, the more money you will make. Happy posting!
