Depending on your lifestyle, there are a lot of ways to save money and, in these cautious financial times, who doesn't want to save money? Finding the best ways to save money doesn't necessarily mean making large sacrifices - it may mean that you actually find some new things that you really like, such as brown bagging lunches.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
Save money by brewing your own cup of specialty coffee

Some of the best ways to save money are the ways that are easy and relatively painless. If you purchase lattes at specialty coffee shops (such as Starbucks), consider making them at home instead. A latte is only espresso coffee mixed with scalded milk. If you don't have an espresso maker, consider buying a good quality espresso powder and mixing with boiling water. It may not be the best thing ever but it's a viable substitute for a $4.50 latte at Starbucks. You'll save time in your day too simply by not going to Starbucks - spend your extra minutes with friends or family or maybe sitting in a garden drinking your coffee. If you just MUST enjoy a special coffee, look for coupons before heading out to the coffee shop.

  2. Step 2
Save money by packing a fun lunch

Packing your own lunch for work days will save money every week. Pack your lunch with treats so they're different every day - add in a few things, such as a box of raisins, or a small pack of raisinettes to revisit your youth. While you're at it, take the opportunity of eating lunch at work to sit with some coworkers. You might just find this to be a good networking opportunity. For the days you do prefer to eat out, look for restaurants which offer coupons or have special lunch menus.

  3. Step 3

Saving money at the grocery store starts with creating a list and sticking to it! Don't shop while you're hungry, everyone knows that, but, did you know that the more economical items in a grocery store are usually on the bottom shelves? And, of course, using coupons is like getting free money! Buying items in bulk will save money but use a vacuum sealer to create smaller portions (see article in resource section. You're not saving money if you have to throw food away! Use the grocery plastic bags as trashcan liners at your home.

  4. Step 4
Consider getting rid of your land line telephone to save money monthly

If you have a cell phone, an easy way to save money (and simplify your life too) is to get rid of your land line phone. Unless you have a person living with you who has a help line installed, there's really no reason to have a home phone anymore. This tip alone could save your $40 or $50/month!

  5. Step 5

I make a game of saving money at my house by emptying all my change, daily, into a piggy bank. I never offer change when out shopping; I always break a new bill and stockpile the change. You'd be surprised how effortless it is to save money, one penny at a time.
